Long Street has earned its reputation as party-central in the heart of Cape Town, but it’s not all dive bars and burger joints. Since 2013, late night party people with a taste for a fine IPA or porter stout can pull up a stool at Beerhouse and taste their way through more than 100 beers from around South Africa and the rest of the world.
To start with, there are 22 local craft beers on tap – from the well-known Cape Brewing Company to the cult-brewery, Triggerfish. If that’s not enough to slake your thirst, the menu lists 99 bottles of beer on the wall…well, on the menu actually.
If you’re not sure whether to start with an easy-drinking Mexican or fragrant German Weiss beer, ask the friendly bar staff. In case they’re too busy pulling pints, the menu has a helpful “taste map” to help you find a brew that fits your palate and pocket.
There is regular live music and once a month Beerhouse hosts a Meet The Brewers evening so that beer fans can discuss the finer points of hops with the men and women behind the malts.
