the new mussel in town

There’s a spot just below The Bay hotel on Victoria Road, Camps Bay that’s suddenly buzzing. The Mussel Bar opened its doors earlier this month and people are raving about the great food and awesome vibe.

It’s all about the mussels. In fact, there are only two items on the main food menu and both include Saldanha Bay mussels, beer sauce, hand cut fries, rosemary salt and aioli. The difference between the two? Your appetite. Opt for either 500gr of mussels and 300gr of fries for R75, or 1kg of mussels and 600gr of fries for R150.

For the less hungry or as a snack before your meal, choose from biltong, nuts, olive and veggie chips. Perfect to enjoy with a cocktail (Pink Mojita or Strawberry Daiquiri, anyone?) or local beers including &Union and Darling. There’s also a small selection of sparkling, red and white wines.

The decor is cool and fresh, with seating spilling out onto the pavement where one can relax in the shade of umbrellas while watching the world go by.

The Mussel Bar is open Monday to Sunday from 11am to 10pm.
