Iziko South African Museum

A must see museum, Iziko South African Museum, founded in 1825, holds a collection of fossils almost 700-million years old, insects and stone tools made more than 120 000 years ago, all of which have scientific importance. With its main attractions being recorded whale calls and dinosaur dioramas, visitors are sure to be inspired and leave with a greater understand of the world in which we live.

Planetarium

Iziko Slave Lodge

One for the lovers of history is the Iziko Slave Lodge built in 1679, which have been transformed into a museum that documents the Cape’s role in the Indian Ocean slave trade route, where slaves were brought to the Cape from Indonesia, India-Ceylon, Madagascar and Mozambique. An exhibit of the difficult circumstances slaves had to endure aboard the slave ships, unique features commemorating the slave inmates and an audio-visual tour into the oppressive conditions slaves suffered under in the Slave Lodge will give you greater insight and understanding of the history that shaped the rich culture of the unique blend of people walking the streets of this diverse city.
