Boulders Penguin Colony

Dressed to impress, the formerly known ‘jackass’ penguin, re-christened as the African penguin, is quite the little charm. Although various zoos around the world keep breeding penguins, Boulders Beach in Simons Town is one of the main breeding Colonies in South Africa besides Betty’s Bay.

Boulders Beach

The name of this incredibly beautiful bay like beach comes from the large amount of gigantic  540 million year old granite boulders that frame the beach in, these various size granite boulders are found all along the coastline but are especially concentrated here at Boulders Beach. However the beach is not famous for the granite boulders, the beach is better known and loved for being one of the last remaining African Penguin breeding colonies.
