Hermanus – The whale watching mecca…

Whale crierApproximately 115 km outside of Cape Town lies the beautiful artistic town, with over 16 Art Galleries, of Hermanus. The Whale crier tradition started in 1992 with Pieter Claasen, alerting visitors and locals alike of the whales in the bay by blowing on his, now well known, kelp horn. The tradition was passed down through the years and Eric Davalah is the current whale crier. The Southern Right Whales appear in Hermanus during winter and spring, and the experience of seeing them is something divinely unforgettable.
