Architecture may be a creative field, but it is more often than not a constrained creativity. It also takes a while for ideas and designs to become a reality, which is one of the reasons that motivated Jovan Geldenhuys, a Senior Architectural Technologist, to design simple, practical and stylish products under his own label, The Artisan.

Inspired by lighting design, Jovan’s first product range – table, wall and floor lamps – was a logical choice. The lamps are simple yet striking and stylish, and each basic design offers a few variations like colour and choice of plastic or fabric cord. As the lamps are made to order, there is also the possibility of custom variations. For instance, Jovan was more than happy to accommodate my request of a fully painted piece. Other products are also planned so we recommend keeping up to date with news by following The Artisan on Facebook and Twitter.

Jovan is based in Somerset West, but told me that he really misses Woodstock, where he lived before relocating for work.

Orders are via The Artisan website for now (the range has only just launched) but Jovan hopes to offer other options soon.
