The movie focuses on an old man reading a story to an old woman in a nursing home. The story he reads follows two young lovers named Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun, who meet one evening at a carnival. But they are separated by Allie’s parents who dissaprove of Noah’s unwealthy family, and move Allie away. After waiting for Noah to write her for several years, Allie meets and gets engaged to a handsome young soldier named Lon. Allie, then, with her love for Noah still alive, stops by Noah’s 200-year-old home that he restored for her, “to see if he’s okay”. It is evident that they still have feelings for each other, and Allie has to choose between her fiancé and her first love.” – Jessica Cymerman, IMDB

short & sweet cape town – valentine summer screening

Short & Sweet, which began in London in 2006 and expanded to Sydney, Toronto and Cape Town, brings people and short film together. The finest short films, music videos and animations from around the world, from established directors to new talent, celebrate film and take audiences on a journey: creatively, personally and emotionally.

Last year saw the first Short & Sweet Cape Town event. The winter edition played to a packed house for the full week and while plans are underway for another event this year Short & Sweet is offering a once-off summer screening on Valentine’s Day.

Summer cocktails and popcorn are the perfect replacement for champagne and roses when paired with a selection of short films with the steamy undertones of love, hate and desire. This “un-regrettable one-night stand” is sure to make your heart throb.

Doors open at 6pm with the first screening at 7:30pm, but due to the popularity of last year’s event it is best to get there early. If you do, you’ll also enjoy the smooth sounds of Vegus Nerve while sipping an ice cold drink from the bar. The popcorn is free for early birds.

Tickets cost R35 each or R60 per couple.

Short & Sweet Valentine Summer screening takes place at The Dream Factory, 10 Orphan Street (located between Bree and Loop Street).
