I’ve never liked beer. Until recently, that is. My first craft beer tasting led to a second and suddenly my taste buds were cheering and I had a whole new perspective on what is arguably South Africa’s national drink. It is also why The Beer Merchant is now something I mention with a lot more excitement than I would have a few months ago.
The go-to guys for local craft beer and micro brews, and imports of the popular and rare varieties, they distribute, hold beer education and workshops and offer The Beer Box, made up of 16 craft beers (local, imported or a mixture of the two; your choice). Then there’s their bar upstairs at the V&A Market on The Wharf: 40 different beers, including four on tap and sublime food choices as tasty accompaniment. It’s like a whole new world has opened up for exploration.
The Beer Merchant also hosts events and festivals, like the one happening this Saturday, where they’ve teamed up with Van Hunks for a day of beer, burgers and the Boks. There will be 20 craft beers up for tasting, a burger on the house, and the Boks will be playing at 5, of course. All for just R150-00. Tickets are available at Van Hunks or The Beer Merchant, or via Quicket. Alternatively you can email email@example.com.

For 24 years the Leone Family has been producing quality baked goods in Cape Town under the flag of their Leo Foods brand, and more recently, their Emporio Leone flagship retail store and Espresso Bar in the V&A Waterfront.
With a focus on artisan quality and innovative, unique products, the Leone Family bakes small batches from scratch using traditional methods and fresh, quality ingredients.
In celebration of Cape Town’s culinary heritage and of their own history of baking in the Mother City, Leo Foods and Emporio Leone are launching their “Made in Cape Town with Love” campaign, which will focus attention on the local origin of their products, while reminding customers of the rich food culture celebrated in Cape Town.
“Made in Cape Town with Love is an ode to Cape Town, the history of Cape Town’s food culture and the history of the Leone Family as a part of this” comments Dylan Leone, third generation Leone family food enthusiast and co-owner of Leo Foods and Emporio Leone.
Watch out for the “Made in Cape Town with Love” logo appearing on Leo Foods packaging and throughout the Emporio Leone store at the V&A Waterfront, and follow Emporio Leone on Facebook and Twitter as they celebrate 24 years of baking in Cape Town.
We love the Emporio Leone Christmas hamper, which would make a wonderful gift, but highly recommend a visit to see the full range of festive fare.
